Baseball:
Jacob Peyton’s stock continues to rise each week at Rancho Cucamonga.
Last week, Peyton played a starring role in the Cougars’ three-game Baseline League sweep over Los Osos.
On Friday, Peyton made sure RCHS avoided a sweep at the hands of Etiwanda.
After a pair of losses to the Eagles, Peyton took over.
He went six scoreless innings and scattered four hits to lead Rancho Cucamonga to a 6-0 victory at Etiwanda.
With two weeks to play, RCHS holds a one-game lead over Los Osos and Damien.
Peyton issued one walk and registered eight strikeouts.
Nathaniel Pilawski got the final three outs, including two via strikeout.
Ryan Severns and Frank Gonzales doubled.
Jack Holguin and Josh Adams had one single apiece to account for the rest of the EHS offense.
Nico Hamilton got the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits over 2 2/3 innings.
Hamilton didn’t issue a walk, and he registered two strikeouts.
Peyton helped his own cause, going 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs and an RBI.
Grant Thomas singled, doubled and drove in three runs.
Brock Foulds singled and scored.
Jose Gomez singled and scored a pair of runs.
Aiden Bravo doubled and drove in two.
Jared Sclafani and Jared Mock walked and had one single apiece.
Rowan Suchanek singled once in the win.
