Baseball:
Monrovia enters the final week of the regular season having won four of their last five games.
And that includes Saturday’s 6-2 victory over Flintridge Prep.
Gavin Shearing went two innings and he was charged with two runs on two hits.
Shearin walked three and fanned four FP batters.
Padraic Bursseau earned the win, going three scoreless innings and surrendering just one hit.
Brusseau issued two walks and registered a pair of strikeouts.
Wyatt Barrier and Cameron Greene both provided one scoreless and hitless inning apiece for MHS.
Nathan Sanok walked, singled twice and scored.
Joaquin Ochoa walked and scored.
Nicholas Aparicio went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Lucas Yin got the loss after surrendering three runs on four hits in two innings of work.
Yin didn’t issue a walk and registered one strikeout.
Lucas Martinez went 2-for-3 with a walk, run and two RBIs.
Kaleb Ellison drew a pair of walks, scored twice and his two-run home run in the bottom of the second gave Monrovia a 3-2 lead.
Jayden Castaneda walked and singled.
Evan Huelster singled, doubled and scored a pair of runs.
Troy Grise’s sac fly in the bottom of the fifth extended the Bulldogs advantage to 6-2.
Braydon Blackmore was hit by pitch and scored.
Sutton Powers drew a pair of walks.
Greyson Lorenzini singled.
Up next: The Wildcats host first-place La Canada on Monday at 3:30.
If Monrovia sweeps both games next week, they’ll secure the Rio Hondo League championship.
