Baseball:
Rudy O’Dell and Curtis Watson combined on a two-hit shutout in Damien’s 3-0 victory at Upland in the first of a three-game set with the Highlanders.
The Spartans improved to 3-1 in Baseline League play.
O’Dell did the heavy lifting.
He went six scoreless innings and allowed just two hits.
O’Dell walked four and struck out six UHS batters.
Watson didn’t allow a run, hit or walk, and he fanned two of the three batters he faced to earn the save.
Dom Nava and Julian Zambrano had one hit apiece to account for the Upland offense.
Issac Carlos went 6 2/3 innings, and he surrendered three runs (two earned) on six hits.
Carlos issued four walks and registered six strikeouts.
Elius Kelly went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs.
Brady Bickham singled and his RBI double in the top of the third inning gave DHS a 2-0 lead.
Gino Tarzia walked and singled in a run in the sixth inning.
Michael Mansour walked and singled.
Grant Corder went 1-for-3.
