Baseball:

Marshall Fundamental outlasted their hosts from Arroyo, 9-6, in Wednesday’s 9-6 Mission Valley League victory.

In spite of taking a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the second inning, the Eagles had just a 7-6 advantage when they picked up their bats in the top of the third inning.

However, the Knights wouldn’t score over the final five innings.

Michael Gerst earned the win after going six innings and allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits.

Gerst issued five walks and registered nine strikeouts.

Elijah Lain went a perfect seventh inning in relief.

Lain got two of his three outs via strikeout.

Chris Corona had a pair of doubles and scored.

Jacob Artuna went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Romeo Arevalo drew a pair of walks and scored two runs.

Gio Perez walked and scored.

Andrew Villa went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Andres Mardueno drew a bases loaded walk and scored.

Gio Perez got the loss after surrendering seven runs on two hits and six walks over 1 1/3 innings.

Adan Castro went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI double.

George Jennings tripled and had one RBI.

Caleb Thatcher drew a pair of walks, scored and had one RBI.

Ben Muro went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs and one RBI.

Trevor Lain walked and had a pair of RBIs.

Nate Callaway contributed two RBIs.

Ryan Pandullo went 1-for-2 with two walks, one run and an RBI single.

Elijah Lain walked and scored.

Nathan Mann and Sandro DiClaudio scored one run apiece.

Up next: The Eagles will host winless (0-12) El Monte today (Thursday) at 3:15.
