Baseball:
Don’t look now, but the Rio Hondo Prep baseball team has won 11 consecutive games.
And to add icing to the cake, the Kares got that 11th consecutive win because of a 3-2 victory over Poly.
Trailing 2-1, RHP got single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Nate Harwood went the distance, allowing two runs on three hits.
The Kares’ freshman issued five walks and registered 11 strikeouts.
Harwood needed 106 pitches to finish what he started, to borrow a song lyric from Van Halen.
Caiden Kennedy walked, doubled and scored.
Jack Schugren went 2-for-3.
Luke Phillips drew three walks and scored one run.
Alejandro Kohn Rabassa had an RBI ground out in the top of the second to give Poly a 2-1 lead.
Poly’s Connor Poon was charged with three runs (one earned) on five hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Poon issued five walks and registered six strikeouts.
Diego Householder drew a pair of walks and scored two runs.
Elijah Gavia singled and had an RBI ground out.
Ivan Tkach doubled in what turned out to be the game winning run in the fifth inning.
Noah Penunuri had an RBI single.
Nate Curtis and Braydon Vinton had one single apiece and Yanick Diaz scored.
Up next: The Kares travel to Poly on Thursday at 3:15.
