Moreno, Romero & Reyes Combine on Four-Hit Nine-Inning Shutout & Strike Out 15 in South Hills’ 1-0 Victory at Bonita

Baseball:

Eleven days after Bonita handed South Hills a 4-2 setback at SHHS in the Pizza Chalet Tournament, the Huskies got payback at BHS.

South Hills scored once in the top of the ninth inning to claim a 1-0 victory.

Joseph Moreno, Justin Romero and Elias Reyes combined on a four-hit shutout, and they struck out 15 Bonita batters.

Moreno went five scoreless, allowing just one hit, walking three and striking out nine.

Romero provided one scoreless inning, and he fanned two.

Reyes got the win after going three innings and allowing four hits.

Reyes didn’t issue a walk and registered four strikeouts.

LJ Vasquez, Cody White, Dominic Garcia and Parker Alexander had one single apiece to account for the Bearcats offense.

Camden Farina went the first 5 2/3 innings for BHS, and he surrendered a pair of singles.

Farina walked two and struck out nine SHHS batters.

Daniel Nageer provided 2 1/3 perfect innings in relief, including three strikeouts.

Ryder Gibson got the loss after surrendering one run on two hits over one inning of work.

With one out in the top of the ninth inning, Paxton Czubek tripled.

One batter later, Carson Baker singled Czubek home for what turned out to be the game winning run.

Nicolas Munoz and Diego Villarreal had the other two Huskies’ base hits.

Up next: SHHS travels to San Marino on Thursday at 3:15.

And the Bearcats host Los Osos on Friday.
