Boys Athlete of the Week

Rancho Cucamonga Senior Running Back, Keyonn Chatman, Named 210 Prep Sports Boys Athlete of the Week

Sep 23 2024 09:10:54

Name : Keyonn Chatman
School : Rancho Cucamonga
Sport : Football
Grade : Senior
Position : Running Back

Boys Athlete of the Week:

It wasn’t the start Rancho Cucamonga had hoped for.

The Cougars fell to 0-2 after losses to Murrieta Valley (35-19) and Orange Lutheran (45-14).

Keep in mind, though, MVHS is ranked 81st in the state (MaxPreps) and O-Lu is 17th.

Since week one, however, RCHS has won its last three games as they head into their bye week.

To get to 3-2 at the break, they needed a victory at Bishop Amat in a week-four showdown of power programs.

And in spite of losing their quarterback, Jacob Chambers, early in the second quarter, the Cougars grinded out a 21-19 victory in La Puente.

Keyonn Chatman, the running game, and Chatman’s offensive line did the heavy lifting after Chambers’ exit.

In all, Rancho Cucamonga carried the ball 43 times for 255 yards, and that included a pair of TD runs.

Chatman did the Lion’s share of work, gaining 151 yards on 25 carries.

Chatman also had a five-yard TD run in the second quarter.

Tyree Wilson (8-for-58 & one TD), James Strong (4-for-22) and Chambers (3-19) combined for 228 yards on the ground.

And because of their success, Rancho Cucamonga had an approximate seven-minute advantage in the time of possession battle.

Through the first five games of 2024, Chatman leads the Cougars with 392 yards rushing on 68 carries.
