Boys Tennis:
Thanks to La Salle coach Javier Djeu for this report:
The Lancers preseason continued this week with a match against Pasadena Poly, where the team showcased its resilience despite being short-staffed.
“The match went well,” said Head Coach Javier. “Preseason matches are to prepare for the regular season, and we did just that.” The players stepped up despite missing teammates, gaining valuable experience ahead of league competition.
Mentally, the team is in a strong place, though the start of the season has been a bit unorthodox. “We’ve had a funky start to the season, so everyone is a bit out of routine, but I know we’ll get into it quickly and dig into the championship mentality I know we have,” coach Javier added. The theme of “pressure” continues to resonate with the players, who are using it as motivation to elevate their performances.
Unfortunately, their scheduled match against Flintridge Prep was rained out, frustrating both the team and coach. “We have a great time playing them each year, and it’s a final checkpoint before playing the tougher teams in our league,” the coach explained. “Our second match of the season, next week, is against the toughest team in our league, so I was hoping to use this match as our final push to get ready for them.”
Now, the focus shifts to the start of the regular season. La Salle will open league play next week with a home match against St. Monica, followed by a key road matchup against rival Bishop Montgomery on Thursday.
Assuming the weather cooperates, the team’s main focus will be consistency—both in strokes and in the mental game. With a strong mindset and growing confidence, the Lancers are preparing for the battles ahead, eager to defend their titles and continue their winning tradition.
