Marshall Fundamental Scored Twice in the Bottom of the Sixth to Edge Western Christian, 3-2; Eagles Improved to 5-1-1

Baseball:

For the fifth time in their first seven games, the Marshall Fundamental pitching staff allowed two runs or less in a game.

And for the fifth time, the Eagles were victorious.

Marshall scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to claim a 3-2 victory over Western Christian.

Michael Gerst went four innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits.

Gerst didn’t issue a walk and struck out five WCHS batters.

Elijah Lain was credited with the win.

Lain went a scoreless and hitless fifth and sixth innings.

Ben Level earned the save by retiring the side in the top of the seventh inning.

Dylan Martinez had an RBI double in the fourth inning to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead.

Will Stradley went 2-for-4.

Reece Peters and Eric Gallo singled and scored one run apiece.

Owen Smith got the loss after going 5 1/3 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits.

Smith walked three and fanned seven Marshall batters.

Ben Muro walked and his RBI double in the fourth pulled the Eagles to within 2-1 of the Lancers.

Adan Castro also drew a walk, and his RBI double in the sixth evened the game at 2-2.

Castro would score on a WCHS fielding error.

Ryan Pandullo had two of Marshall’s five hits.

Trevor Lain singled in the win.

Up next: The Eagles won’t play again until next Saturday, as they host La Canada at noon.
