Boys Basketball:

The two favorites to win the Hacienda League title met up on Wednesday night.

Walnut and Diamond Bar entered the league opener with a combined record of 30-4.

And while the Brahmas defeated the visiting Mustangs, 68-59, the game was closer than the score might indicate.

DBHS and WHS were tied 35-35 at the break and both scored 14 points apiece in the fourth quarter.

But it was a 19-10 third-quarter run that gave Diamond Bar a little breathing room.

Malcolm Bell led the Brahmas with 22 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Alex Kim provided 12 points and 10 boards, while Ethan Alfonso had nine points, six rebounds and three steals.

Dior Brown chipped in with eight points, five rebounds and three steals.

Joby Barnes led Walnut with a game-high 26 points.

Malik Khouzam chipped in with 14 points and five assists.

Gavin Ibrahim contributed seven points for the Mustangs.
