Baseball:
In yet another recurring plot twist, Damien regained control of the Baseline League penthouse on Wednesday.
After the Spartans 6-4 victory over Etiwanda, and with Chino Hills defeating Los Osos, 4-3, DHS enters the final game of the 2024 regular season with a one-half game lead over the second-place Grizzlies.
Nathan Ries struggled, but he grinded his way through five innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on 10 hits.
Ries issued one walk and fanned six EHS batters.
Troy Lopez provided two scoreless innings and he allowed just one hit.
Lopez didn’t walk a batter and he struck out four.
Ryan Severns had a pair of RBI singles.
Jaeden Toki went 3-for-3 with a walk.
Chris Montes de Oca singled and scored.
Angel Mejia singled twice and scored a pair of runs.
Jake Furnald went 2-for-3 and scored one run.
Luke Mendoza singled.
Michael Aleman was charged with four runs on two hits in 2 2/3 innings.
Aleman walked six and struck out a pair of Damien batters.
Andrew Weber went 3 1/3 innings, allowing two unearned runs on three hits.
