Heading into the 2021 fall season, West Covina senior Madi Schleif and her teammates hadn’t played a regular season volleyball match since October of 2019.
And while WCHS is 18 games in and has an 11-7 record, there is still a lot of hard work to do if Fred Nash and his Lady Bulldogs want to make a run at a Valle Vista League title, as well as getting themselves ready for the CIF-SS playoffs.
WCHS made a positive step forward over the weekend by finishing third at the Scorpion Classic at Hesperia High School on Saturday.
West Covina won three of their five matches, with victories over San Gorgonio, AB Miller and Sultana.
Hesperia and undefeated Chaminade were their only setbacks on Saturday.
Schleif earned all-tournament honors after tallying 35 kills and 20 digs.
Schleif has also been the offensive leader, it seems, in almost every West Covina match this year.
Up next: The Bulldogs will open VVL play on Monday, as San Dimas comes to town.
