Softball:
Upland got out to a six-run lead in Tuesday’s Baseline League showdown with Etiwanda.
The Eagles would get two runs in the top of the fifth and three more in the seventh, but the Highlanders held on for an important 6-5 victory.
Sarah Haendies went the distance for Upland.
Haendies allowed five runs on 10 hits and was credited with the win.
She didn’t walk anyone and struck out eight Eagles’ batters.
Karissa Munsey doubled twice and scored.
Jailey Wilson went 2-for-4, with two RBIs.
Talissa Montez doubled and scored and Casey Fazzini singled and scored.
Odyssey Torres had an RBI base hit and Alissa Castaneda singled and scored.
Elle Komara contributed an RBI base hit.
Miranda Roldan was struck with the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits over her 3 1/3 innings of work.
Roldan didn’t walk anyone, struck out one, and surrendered four home runs.
Marissa Caballero homered twice and drove in three runs.
Natalia Lira homered and drove in two runs.
Paige Cowley hit a solo shot and Bella Cahueque singled and scored.
Up next: Etiwanda will host St. Lucy’s and Upland welcomes Chino Hills to their field.
Both games are slated for Thursday at 3:15.
