Softball:

Etiwanda is just one win away from earning the right to play for a CIF-SS Division 3 championship.

The Eagles got a fantastic effort in the circle and at the plate from Alyssa Galindo in a 3-0 quarterfinal round victory over their visitors from Redondo Union.

Galindo got the win after tossing a three-hit shutout.

Galindo walked two Redondo Union batters and struck out 10.

She needed 94 pitches to finish what she started.

Abby Luis walked and singled.

Kaya Aguirre and Daisy Baker had one single apiece to account for the rest of the Sea Hawks offense.

Bailey Murray got the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits over six innings.

Murray didn’t issue a walk and struck out seven EHS batters.

Charlotte Baum gave Etiwanda a 1-0 lead with her solo home run in the bottom of the third inning.

Galindo and Kimmy Aleman opened the fourth with back-to-back singles.

Alysse Mendoza came in to pinch-run for Galindo, and Brianna Gutierrez doubled Mendoza home as the lead grew to 2-0.

In the sixth, Frankie Nevarez gave Galindo an insurance run with her RBI double.

Galindo went 2-for-3 to help her own cause and two of the three runs came from those two base hits.

Nevaraez also had two hits to go with her RBI.

Up next: The Eagles travel to West Torrance on Saturday at 3:15.

The Warriors (24-4) secured a 3-0 victory over Fullerton in their quarterfinal round game on Thursday.

Quotable:

Etiwanda coach, Adrianna Brown: “Alyssa got it done on both sides today, pitching a shut out with 10ks and going 2-3 at the plate with both of those runs scoring. She plays the game right and it shows through her performance.”

Etiwanda pitcher, Alyssa Galindo: “Our team is super excited to have an opportunity to be one game away from playing for a CIF title. We are still one game away from that opportunity, so we still have work to do. In today’s game, we had a mindset of going pitch-by-pitch and winning every inning. We never let down, and for me as a pitcher, when I put my mask on, I just focus on my catcher (Charlotte Baum), lock in, and throw my pitch. My goal as a pitcher is to keep the hitters off-balance and guessing as to what pitch is coming next. We will take this same mindset into Saturday’s game and continue to work together as a team.”
