Baseball:

Bishop Amat has served as a thorn in the side of La Salle for several years now.

The Lancers have claimed four consecutive Del Rey League games, and nine of their last 10 with La Salle.

And this one had to sting.

La Salle scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to catch Amat at 3-3.

But the Lancers got three in the top of the 12th to claim a 6-3 victory, and they improved to 4-0 in league play.

Val Gomez went 5 1/3 innings and allowed one run on five hits.

He walked three and fanned three Amat batters.

Morgan Sullivan surrendered a pair of runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings of work.

He issued just one walk and struck out seven.

David Mysza was stuck with the loss after allowing three runs in the 12th on two hits.

Mysza didn’t walk anyone and fanned two.

Micah Ayala went 2-for-5 with a run and three RBIs.

Jacob Campos singled four times and scored twice.

Luke Viola had a pair of singles and an RBI.

Raymond Perez singled and scored.

Sean Suriyel went five innings for Amat and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits.

Suriyel didn’t issue a walk and struck out six.

Moises Escobedo provided seven scoreless innings and allowed just a pair of hits.

Escobedo walked one and fanned 11 La Salle batters.

Amat pitching struck out 11 of the 12 LSHS batters they faced at least once.

Val Gomez went 3-for-5 and scored one run.

Travis Ochoa singled twice and drove in a pair of runs.

Mysza singled and scored.

Jacob Escamilla doubled and Will Clougherty and AC Nieto had one hit apiece.

Up next: La Salle will host St. Paul on Tuesday at 3:15.

The Swordsmen (0-9, 0-4) have yet to win a game in 2023.
