Walnut Gets Balanced Effort in 91-73 Victory Over Ayala in Wednesday’s Season Opener

Boys Basketball:

Ayala dug itself a deep first-half hole, and the Bulldogs couldn’t dig their way out in Wednesday’s 91-73 loss to Walnut.

The Mustangs took a 55-38 lead into the break and never looked back.

Malik Khouzam led Walnut with 25 points, five assists and five rebounds.

Joby Barnes added 17 points, four assists, two steals and a hair of blocks.

And Adrian Triplett contributed 14 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks for the Mustangs.

Ayala’s Dylan Victorio led all scorers with 33 points, including three 3-pointers.

Linus Lo chipped in with 17 points, and had three 3-point baskets of his own.

And Luke Williams had eight.

Up next: Ayala will host Charter Oak on Friday at 6:30.

The Chargers (0-1) were edged by Alta Loma, 60-56, in the season opener for both programs.
