Mater Dei ended Damien’s season with a 5-0 victory at DHS in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.
Andrew Carter was charged with three runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings.
Carter walked one and fanned one.
Nathan Ries went 5 2/3 innings, and he allowed two runs on three hits.
Ries didn’t issue a walk and struck out five Monarchs’ batters.
Antonio Ganem went 2-for-4 with a double, run and RBI.
Brody Connors singled and had three RBIs.
Sam Tucci and Dylan Wetzel singled and scored one run apiece.
Lawson Olmstead singled, scored and had one RBI.
Wylan Moss got the win.
Moss tossed a four-hit shutout, walked two and fanned seven Damien batters.
Tyler Tancredi and JT Lovato doubled, while Jaden Kidder and Devin Perez singled to account for the Spartans offense.
