Softball:
The difference between winning and finishing second in the Pacific League meant a road game for the Arcadia softball program.
The Apaches dropped a 6-3 decision in eight innings to Crescenta Valley last Thursday, as the Falcons scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game, and capped the comeback with three eighth-inning runs.
Their confidence had to be shot, right?
Not at all.
Arcadia jumped on Bishop Amat early and often, and the Apaches claimed a 13-4 beatdown in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs.
Arcadia pounded out 12 hits and reached base 11 times on either walks or being hit by pitch.
The Apaches were led offensively by junior Morgan Howey, who was 3-for-4, with three runs and three RBIs.
Tiara Westbrook went 2-for-5, and drove in four runs.
Delaney Prater and Tiana Smith contributed two hits apiece.
Westbrook went the distance to pick up the win.
She allowed four runs on seven hits.
Up next: Arcadia will host Aquinas on Saturday.
The Falcons (15-2) defeated South El Monte, 10-0, in their first-round game.
First pitch is set for 3:15.
