Football:
For the first time since September 27th of 2024, the Rio Hondo Prep football program dropped a regular season game.
The Kares fell at Quartz Hill, 32-21, on Friday night.
Trailing 14-12 at the half, the Royals outscored RHP 20-7 in the second half.
Quartz Hill dominated Rio Hondo Prep statistically.
They had advantages in first downs (24-14), total offense (423-164), rushing (226-70), passing (197-94) and the time of possession battle (28-20).
The Kares played a much more disciplined brand of football.
They were penalized five times for 25 yards, as compared to 14 flags against Quartz Hill for 144 yards.
Maddox Olson completed 11-of-26 for 197 yards.
Olson found Tyler Hudson on an 83-yard TD pass, and he scored on a nine-yard run.
Hudson had a pair of receptions for 93 yards.
Kemir Smith had a game-high 114 yards on 17 carries, including TD runs of 2 and 10 yards.
Elias Har caught TD passes of 18 and 15 yards in the second quarter to give RHP a 14-12 lead.
Donald Scheffler completed 12-of-24 for 94 yards with the two TDs.
And Scheffler was picked by Demaje Devaul, who brought it back 25 yards for a TD with 37 seconds remaining in the game.
Har finished with four catches for 64 yards.
Nicolas Harrington had three receptions for 24 yards.
Matthew Montez led the Kares ground game with 70 yards on 11 carries.
Aiden Delgadillo had eight tackles, and he picked an Olson pass and brought it back 65 yards to give Rio Hondo Prep a 21-18 lead with 38 seconds to play in the third quarter.
Christian Lee totaled a game-best 14 tackles.
Nathaniel Riley and Nicolas Harrington had seven tackles apiece in the loss.
Isaac Guzman picked a pass for RHP and Vincent Reyes and August Kellers had sacks for the Kares.
Up next: The Kares travel to Marquez next Friday at 7.
The Gladiators (1-2) dropped a 52-48 shootout to their visitors from Mayfair.
