Football:
Alta Loma entered its third game of the season on a down note.
While the Lions were 2-0, they saw arguably their best athlete (Bryant Avila) go down with a broken collarbone at St. Francis last week, and they were without the services of another playmaker, Santiago Vasquez.
Make no mistake about it, though, Etiwanda was the deeper and more talented team on Friday.
And the scoreboard reflected it.
The Eagles cruised to a 37-14 victory in a game that was never in doubt.
The closest ALHS got was 14-7 late in the first quarter.
EHS, however, scored the next 23 points thanks to three TDs and a 28-yard field goal by Jude Anderson.
Landon Congalton completed 13-of-18 for 200 yards.
That included 37-and-41-yard TD passes to Brandon Andrade.
Andrade had game highs in receptions (5), receiving yards (115) and TD receptions (2).
Drew Toki had TD runs of 3 and 1 yard.
Jaidyn Shepherd got EHS on the board with a 21-yard TD run just under three minutes into the game.
Alta Loma’s Izaih Brown led all running backs with 63 yards on 16 carries.
Max Fierro was 7-of-13 for 110 yards.
Fierro tossed a 39-yard TD pass to Owen Lyons with 20 seconds to play in the first quarter.
Brady Hodge found Josiah Shaw for the Lions lone score of the game.
Up next: EHS will host Norco on Thursday at 7.
The Cougars (3-0) have defeated Roosevelt, Colony and Orange Vista by a combined margin of 160-21.
ALHS travels Citrus College on Friday to battle Glendora.
The Tartans (2-1) thumped Claremont, 43-13, after scoring the final 43 points of the game.
