Quotable:
Citrus coach, Andy Smith: “Huddy has been an elite competitor all year. He never gives in and finds a way to get it done even when he doesn’t have his best stuff like today. He struggled landing his slider which is his bread and butter, but he executed pitches in key moments and never allowed for a comfortable AB. It was definitely fun to see the bats come alive today including big swings by Cole and Nick. We’ve known for a while this offense can be dangerous, but we’ve faced some great pitching all year and guys have been grinding it out trying to find their rhythms. Today was a fun byproduct of these guys sticking to the process and having a good mindset. We’ve handled a really tough schedule and have shown we can compete with anyone. But there is still plenty of areas of growth needed. But what I will say for this group is they are confident, they really enjoy playing together, and can see major contributions from anyone on any given day. Very fun group to coach. We just need to keep growing together.”
Citrus starting pitcher, Tim Hudson: “I knew we have an outstanding defense and that I needed to throw the ball over the plate. I was able to do that from the first inning, and that was the recipe for success. My fastball was playing well on both sides of the plate. My secondaries were there when I needed them. I know we have great hitters, so it doesn’t surprise me that we put up a bunch of runs. (Coach) Andy as his staff have been everything and more to me. I’ve never met a staff that is as passionate as they are, and that cares as much as they do about their athletes on and off the field. It’s a great place to become both a better player and person.”
