Football:
In previous seasons, Alta Loma needing back-to-back road wins at Northview and San Dimas would be a tall task.
However, last week, the Lions stunned the Vikings, 21-20.
And in Thursday’s regular season finale, ALHS jumped on San Dimas early, and they cruised to a 28-7 victory.
Thanks to Northview’s 35-0 victory at West Covina, and the Lions thumping of the Saints, Alta Loma claimed a share of the Valle Vista League championship with NHS and WCHS.
ALHS never let SDHS in the game.
The Lions defense opened with a three-and-out, and freshman quarterback Maximus Fierro led the Alta Loma offense efficiently throughout Thursday night’s win.
One week after multiple interceptions, Fierro bounced back with three TD passes and a TD run.
He did not turn the ball over.
On Alta Loma’s first drive, Fierro hit sophomore Bryant Avila on an 8-yard TD strike.
Fierro extended the ALHS lead to 14-0 on a 12-yard TD run.
And the Lions would take a 21-0 advantage on a 5-yard TD pass on fourth-and-goal.
Alta Loma closed out their scoring with a 7-yard hookup between Fierro and Avila.
On their first drive of the second half, ALHS drove all the way to the SDHS 1-yard line before being ruled short.
However, the boys in the visitors’ uniforms ate up nearly half of the third quarter clock on that one drive alone.
On San Dimas’ ensuing possession, it looked as though the ALHS defense had tackled a Saints running back in the end zone for a safety, but the refs gave SDHS a generous spot.
San Dimas got on the board late when Keenan Hoyt scored on a 23-yard TD run.
Alta Loma’s Kristopher Biggers and Izaih Brown had 75 rushing yards apiece.
SDHS turned the ball over four times.
Ryder Dunlap recovered a pair of Saints’ fumbles.
Devon White picked an SDHS pass and Steven Sanchez recovered a fumble for the ALHS defense.
While trailing by multiple scores, San Dimas wasn’t going to have enough clock to catch the Lions with an almost run-only offense.
Up next: The Braves will get their first-round CIF-SS playoff opponent on Sunday morning at 10.

The Saints (5-5, 2-3) will have to depend on an at-large bid after a fourth-place league finish.
