The last time Maranatha faced Montebello was in the 2017 CIF-SS Quarterfinals, when the Lady Minutemen defeated the Oilers, 10-8, and advanced to the semifinals (where they lost, 9-9).
Today’s match was the exact opposite of that tense showdown.
Continuing the pattern of most of Maranatha’s opponents this season, the Oilers are in rebuild mode after having graduated 12 seniors last year.
It’s not the way the Lady Minutemen wanted to head into league play, with the likes of reigning league champion and runner-up, Village Christian and Valley Christian, awaiting them.
But that’s not in their control.
Maranatha (9-0) will host Thursday’s league opener against Village Christian and will head into the match without being tested since the La Salle match (10-8) some three weeks ago.
