With a tough league schedule awaiting them, the Lady Minutemen know they need to keep improving if they are going to be able to compete in the competitive Olympic League.
Monday’s match with the Matadors of San Gabriel (7-3) would give them another chance to test themselves and work on areas to improve.
It wasn’t a flawless match by any stretch of the imagination, but it did provide opportunities for the Lady Minutemen to find ways to be consistent and to work themselves out of tough situations.
Maranatha was able to get a quick jump out of the gates for a surprising 6-0 sweep of the first round.
The toughest set was at the No. 1 doubles slot, where Mia Huang/Jennifer Chu trailed the entire set, before evening score at 5-5.
They then honed their focus, winning the set, 7-5.
In singles, Nos. 1-3, Grace Yang, Sarah Fong, and Hannah Su swept with 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 wins.
No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, Kathryn Khalil/Madison White and Diana Sarksyan/Dora Wang won their sets, 6-3, 6-1.
The Lady Minutemen went 5-1 in the second round to clinch the match.
Both teams brought in substitutions in the final round, which Maranatha won, 4-2, for the 15-3 victory.
