Boys Tennis:
Thanks to La Salle coach Javier Djeu for this season recap:
The 2025 La Salle tennis season has officially wrapped, and once again, the Lancers proved they are among the elite programs in the San Gabriel Valley.
La Salle finished with a 9-1 record, capturing the Del Rey League team title for the second year in a row, and the third time in four seasons.
“We had a bumpy start to the season, but as always, we regained our focus when it mattered most,” said head coach Javier Djeu. “I would’ve liked to have another perfect season, but the second time around, Bishop Montgomery came to play and totally outplayed us in the singles matches.”
Despite the lone loss, the Lancers remained focused and disciplined throughout the season, showing resilience and growth with each match.
Their continued league dominance is the product of a long-term vision put in place by Coach Djeu.
“When I first started coaching at La Salle, the reputation of the team wasn’t one that other teams feared. My first goal was to become a tough opponent on everyone’s schedule—not necessarily to win, but to be respected. After five seasons, we’ve won three league titles and a CIF championship. I think it’s safe to say that goal has been accomplished.”
In the individual league tournament, La Salle was nothing short of dominant.
The Lancers won the Del Rey League doubles title for the fourth year in a row, and their players finished 1st, 2nd, and 4th in doubles, as well as third and fourth in singles.
“I’m so proud of the guys and how well they played in this year’s individual tournament,” said Coach Javier. “We had eight of our nine guys make it to the semifinals, and that’s a huge accomplishment. To have eight of the 12 players on day two be from the same school is no small feat.”
While there were many challenges this year, including weather delays, lineup changes, and the usual academic pressure, the team adapted and found ways to excel.
“This whole season has been rough,” Djeu admitted. “But as a team, they’ve all been flexible and filled in the gaps where needed to make our team the strongest we could be.”
With the 2025 regular season in the books, La Salle’s reputation continues to grow, and the program has firmly established itself as a powerhouse.
“Tennis in the San Gabriel Valley is competitive. There are so many good players and great schools that it’s hard to stand out sometimes. Seeing our school go from a streaky program to a powerhouse has been fun,” said Coach Javier. “We’ve laid the foundation to have many more successful years—and to become a top choice for top players to join our program.”
La Salle’s climb to the top has been marked by grit, unity, and a commitment to building something lasting.
With a culture now firmly rooted in excellence, and a roster of rising talent, the Lancers are poised to continue making noise in the years to come.
