Baseball:
Flintridge Prep all but wrapped up a Prep League championship on Tuesday.
The Wolves defeated Poly, 5-3.
It’s Prep’s second win over the Panthers in 2021 and with three games remaining, the Wolves have a two-game lead over the Panthers.
They’ll meet again on Friday at the Glendale Sports Complex.
Bradley Marelich had a big day for the Wolves.
Marelich was credited with the win and at the plate, he went 3-for-4 and scored.
Max Brunngraber went four innings and allowed three runs on five hits.
He walked five and struck out two.
Marelich gave Prep 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, and then Spencer Seid secured the save by shutting down Poly over his 1 1/3 innings of work.
Seid didn’t allow a hit or run, walked one and fanned two Poly batters.
Sam Howell walked and had a two-run double for Poly.
Sean Asperger walked, singled twice and had an RBI.
Jason Mayo and Jeremy Ancheta singled and scored in the loss.
Howell was stuck with the loss, after going three innings and allowing two unearned runs on five hits.
Howell walked two and struck out three Prep batters.
Josh Beserra singled, homered and drove in four runs.
JR Kully walked, doubled and scored twice.
Rudy Ruiz went 2-for-4, with an RBI.
Nicholas Gonzalez walked and scored in the win.
Up next: Prep will host Rio Hondo Prep on Wednesday.
First pitch is set for 3:30.
