Softball:
Etiwanda might have had 10 days off after winning a CIF-SS Division 3 championship (3-1 over King) back on May 18th.
The Eagles, however, showed zero rust.
They opened the CIF State Division 2 So Cal Regional playoffs with a 10-0 mercy-rule victory over their visitors from Paraclete.
EHS took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning.
And they scored three runs apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Paraclete entered the game with a record of 31-2, and they were ranked 18th in the state by MaxPreps.
Etiwanda, the 13th ranked program in the state, extended their current win streak to 11 games.
Cameryn Ortega went the distance to earn the win.
She allowed two hits, issued a pair of walks and struck out six PHS batters.
Fifty-seven of Ortega’s 94 pitches were strikes.
Addison Vandecar and Addi Gorman had one single apiece to account for the Spirits offense.
Jamie Sencion got the loss after allowing seven runs (five earned) on seven hits over four innings.
Sencion didn’t issue a walk and struck out nine EHS batters.
Gisselle Peraza went 2-for-3 with two runs, a double, and her three-run HR in the bottom of the sixth inning ended the game via mercy rule.
Kimmy Aleman hit a solo HR and drove in another run on a sac fly.
Karrington Bennett doubled and scored.
Justyne Zabala doubled, tripled, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.
Alysse Mendoza singled and scored.
Frankie Nevarez went 2-for-3 and scored.
Lola Gutierrez scored and had one RBI, and Brianna Gutierrez scored once in Tuesday’s win.
Up next: The Eagles travel to Granada Hills Charter on Thursday.
The first pitch is set for 4.
The Highlanders (29-3) shut out San Marcos, 3-0, on Tuesday.
