Softball:
It doesn’t get much better than that if you’re Etiwanda junior, Alyssa Galindo.
The Eagles ace went the distance in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over ML King in the championship game of the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs at Manning Stadium in Irvine.
Galindo allowed just an unearned run on five hits.
She issued one walk and fanned six Wolves’ batters.
Sixty of Galindo’s 74 pitches were strikes.
Brooke Lebsock singled and scored for King.
Galindo also did some damage at the plate.
In the top of the third inning, and leading 1-0, she hit a two-run home run.
Taylor Wren and Brianna Gutierrez singled and scored one run each for the Division 3 champions.
Gisselle Peraza tripled, while Kimmy Aleman, Frankie Nevarez and Karrington Bennett singled for EHS.
Up next: The Eagles will get their CIF State playoff opponent in the next couple of days.
Quotable:
Etiwanda junior, Alyssa Galindo: “I didn’t know much about them (ML King), but we just entered the game with a good mindset of backing each other up and playing together. Most of my pitches were working well, especially my drop ball and my rise seemed to get a lot of batters. It doesn’t feel real right now. I think once we calm down, it will feel real. It was such a great feeling to get the final out. I am so glad to be able to share this with my teammates. We have gotten really close this season and we did a lot of team bonding. We were all in this together, and that makes this even more special. I just want my teammates to know how amazing this season was with them, and our coaches deserve a lot of credit because they taught us so much.”
