Girls Tennis:
Marshall Fundamental opened the 2023 postseason in impressive form.
The Lady Eagles defeated their visitors from Northview, 13-5, in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs.
Marshall won eight of its nine singles matches.
Sophomore Hannah Hagiwara went 3-0 and won by set scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0.
Freshman Diana Kasabian secured two team points by winning two of her three matches.
Kasabian’s only setback was 5-7 loss in the second round.
Sophomore Elena Edmonds cruised to victories of 6-1, 6-0 and 7-5.
In doubles, Grace Ahn and her partner, Sophia Alpuche, won each of their three matches by scores of 6-2, 7-5 and 6-4.
Hagiwara will also advance to CIF-SS individual play after a second-place finish at the Mission Valley League finals.
Up next: The Eagles will travel to Perris on Friday to battle Citrus Hill.
The Hawks defeated Lancaster, 10-8, in their first-round contest.
