Softball:
Pasadena finished out the 2022 regular season with a 6-5, walk-off victory over Hoover.
It took eight innings, but the win allowed the Bulldogs to finish in a two-way with Burroughs.
But it didn’t come easy.
PHS trailed seventh-place Hoover, 4-0, as they grabbed their bats in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Pasadena, however, got four runs in the fifth inning and one each in the seventh and eighth to avoid an upset.
Offensively, the Bulldogs evened the score in the fifth inning on a double by Darla Burnett, an RBI single by Kaylee McKenzie, an RBI triple by Jazmin Jaquez, and a two-run home run by Maddie Fraer.
McKenzie added another RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the score at 5-5, and send the game to extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, shortstop Alyssa Perez made a perfect throw home, and Fraer tagged out a Hoover runner for the third out, preserving the tie.
Hannah McWade drew a lead-off walk for Pasadena in the bottom of the eighth, and stole second base.
Lizzy Salahuddin ended the game with a single to center, scoring McWade for the walk-off win.
Burnett singled twice, doubled and scored three runs.
McKenzie finished 2-for-4, with a run and two RBIs.
In the circle, Jazmin Jaquez went all eight innings and allowed five runs on six hits.
She walked five and struck out 12 Hoover batters.
