Girls Basketball:

In a span of 10 days, the La Salle girls basketball program has made some major school history.

On Feb. 26, the Lancers claimed the program’s first CIF-SS Division 3AA championship, with a 13-point victory at Cerritos.

And tonight, La Salle won its first CIF-State Division 3 Southern California Regional championship, after winning its 23rd consecutive game.

La Salle defeated visiting Porterville, 62-49, thanks to a 21-5 run in the fourth quarter.

On Friday afternoon, the Lancers will play for a D-3 state championship in Sacramento.

But back to Tuesday night’s victory.

The Lancers got about as balanced an offense as one could ask for.

All five starters had at least nine points or more.

Audrey Chen led the way with 17 points, and five of the 17 came in the critical fourth period.

Reese Wong chipped in with 14 points.

Wong was a clutch 7-for-7 at the free-throw line, including 6-of-6 in the final period.

All 12 of Ellie Chen’s points came from behind the 3-point arc.

Kaden Cortes finished with 10 points, including a team-high seven in the decisive fourth quarter.

And double-R, Ryann Riddle, had nine points in Tuesday’s win.

Porterville’s stud, Nseije Ortiz, had a game-high 22 points, including a pair of 3-pointers and a 6-of-9 effort from the charity stripe.

La Salle converted on 16-of-20 from the free-throw line and had a 24-15 advantage in points behind the 3-point line.

Up next: La Salle will meet up with Oakland Tech in the CIF State Division 3 championship on Friday night.

The Bulldogs (20-11) defeated Lincoln, 51-46, on Tuesday night.

The tip is set for 2 p.m. at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.

Quotable:

La Salle coach, Scott Wiard: “We battled for 32 minutes. We played great defense down the stretch. As the game went on, we did a better job of staying in front of the ball and making them take tough shots. Offensively, we continued to share the basketball and make the next play for our teammates. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished, but we hope we’re not done winning yet.
