CIF-SS Inland Division Individuals at Ayala HS:
Lower-Weight MVP: Fernando Barreto (Walnut)

Long Beach Millikan, Paloma Valley and Walnut had a big weekend at the CIF-SS Inland Division Individuals.
The Rams finished first with 292 team points, thanks to three champions (Jake Pallares, Nathan Gomez & Seth Elliot) and five that placed second (Gavin Laverde, Diego Laverde, Alister Castillo, Alexander Lovato and Kydyn Lima).
Millikan legend Marshall Thompson will have 10 Rams in action at next week’s CIF-SS Masters.
Walnut’s Ronnie Ramirez (106) claimed the first of two titles for the Mustangs program, with a pin over Hillcrest’s Issac Ruvalcaba in the second period.
Fernando Barreto (132) pinned Lakeside’s Justin Wells at 1:55.
And the Mustangs’ Christian Garcia dropped a 1-0 decision to Arlington’s Arturo Carranza in the 113-pound title bout.
Walnut finished in third place behind Millikan and Paloma Valley, and the program will send seven wrestlers to Masters.
And that list includes Elijas Flores (120), Ian Neeley (126), Joseph Contreras (145) and Derrick Meza (152).
Ayala’s Dominic Jauregui won the Palomares League’s 152-pound division last week, and was named the league’s upper-weight MVP.
Fast forward one week, and the Bulldogs’ senior won an Inland Division championship by defeating top-seeded Kydyn Lima of Millikan, 7-5.
Jauregui had two pins and a major decision victory to earn his way into the title match.
Glendora heavyweight Andrew Grimaldi finished second, and 160-pound Marquize Brown earned his spot at Masters, with a fifth-place finish.
Grimaldi pinned his first three opponents to get to the finals.
La Canada’s Alex Mykalo pinned Millikan’s Alexander Lovato in the first period to secure the 145-pound championship, and Junya Ishida (160) lost in the finals.
South Hills will take four to Masters, including Christian Montoya (106), Aaron Vasquez (145), Patrick Seno (152) and Chet Lewis (160).
Alta Loma’s Charlie Wallis (113) and Jacob Stearns (120) are moving on, thanks to fifth and sixth-place finishes, respectively.
Bonita’s Dylan Garcia placed seventh at 113 pounds, and he’ll be the Bearcats lone representative.
