Baseball:

Glendora has earned a spot in its second consecutive CIF-SS semifinal round playoff game.

Last year, the Tartans defeated Temecula Valley (7-5) in the semi’s, and they would edge San Dimas (2-0) to claim a D-3 championship.

To secure a spot in the 2026 D-4 semifinals, GHS edged their visitors from Canyon of Anaheim, 4-3, in spite of playing less than their best baseball.

GHS committed a pair of first-inning errors that cost them a run.

And four Tartans’ pitchers combined to walk seven, plunk a pair of Comanches and unleash two wild pitches

Tanner Grable went 3 1/3 innings, and he was charged with three runs (two earned) on two hits and a hit batter.

Grable issued three walks and registered four strikeouts.

Chase Medina provided 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit, walking one and fanning one Canyon batter.

Jude Garcia got the final six outs to earn the save.

Garcia didn’t allow a hit, issued a pair of walks and hit one batter.

With the tying run on second and one out in the top of the seventh, the Comanches’ Dustin Reveles hit a line shot to right-center.

The ball looked like it was going to find the gap and tie the game at 4-4.

However, centerfielder Troy Norman tracked it down, heaved the ball back to second base and doubled off the Canyon runner to end the contest in dramatic fashion.

Ethan Smith’s sac fly in the top of the first gave CHS a 1-0 lead.

John Somerndike drew a pair of walks, including one with the bases loaded in the top of the fourth.

One batter later, Blake Lau drove in a run on a sac fly to pull Canyon to within 4-3 of the Tartans.

Cam Goetz walked and singled.

James Allen walked and scored.

Bryce Lloyd and Blake Semanie had one single apiece.

Kemuel Zhang got the loss after surrendering four runs (three earned) on three hits and a hit batter over two innings of work.

Zhang issued two walks and registered a pair of strikeouts.

Spencer Mayfield and Matt Simons provided two scoreless innings in relief apiece for the Comanches, including allowing one total hit, three walks and four strikeouts.

In the bottom of the first inning, and with two on and two out, Sebastian Lawrence continues to play the role of hero with a two-run double to give GHS a 2-1 lead.

Aidan Yamazaki followed with a sharp ground ball towards second that got through and plated Lawrence.

John Seader’s RBI single in the bottom of the second extended the GHS lead to 4-1, and it turned out to be the game-winning run.

Riley Cooper drew a pair of walks, was hit by pitch and scored half of Glendora’s runs.

Seader finished 1-for-2, was hit by pitch, scored and had the RBI single.

Diego Garza had half of GHS’ four hits.

Up next: The Tartans will travel to Saugus on Tuesday at 3:15.

Rio Mesa actually defeated SHS, 2-1, in eight innings.

However, they had to forfeit the win on Saturday after reportedly violating pitching rules.

GHS was originally set to host Rio Mesa.
