Tennis:
In the final match of the regular season, the goal for the Minutemen was to play their best tennis to date against an incredibly deep and loaded Bruins squad.
In the Coastal League, there’s Geffen Academy/UCLA and then there’s everyone else.
The Bruins haven’t lost a league match since 2022, when Maranatha defeated the Bruins to claim a share of the league championship.
Knowing who and what they were facing, the Minutemen resolved to step up and to play at their best levels.
If that could be accomplished, they would consider it a true victory, regardless of the score.
That was accomplished up and down the line up, as they raised their level of play, in hopes of making that level their new minimum standard heading into the CIF-SS playoffs in two weeks.
Though the final score was lopsided, and no lost set really was too close, many of the games were tight, with many of them going to deuce.
Senior Reggie Park had a strong day, winning two of Maranatha’s four points in singles play.
In fact, the singles lineup accounted for all of the Minutemen’s points, with Cherif Sauma and Zach Amirian each winning one set.
The Minutemen finish the regular season with an overall record of 8-4, while going 6-2 in league, finishing in 2nd place.
Next week, on April 29-30, many of the Minutemen will head to UCLA to play in the Coastal League Individuals Tournament prelims and finals, with the CIF-SS team playoffs commencing the following week, on May 6.
Division placements and draws will be released on May 2.
