Baseball:
South Hills is now just one win from officially securing another outright Hacienda League championship.
The Huskies edged their visitors from Alta Loma, 4-3, on Monday afternoon in the first of a three-game series with the Lions.
SHHS is 9-1 in Hacienda League play with two more to play against ALHS.
South Hills will finish out league play this week, while Alta Loma has a three-game set with Los Altos next week.
But back to Monday.
The Huskies led 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning and they never trailed.
Hudson Hempel went four innings and allowed one run on five hits and two hit batters.
Hempel didn’t issue a walk and registered two strikeouts.
ALHS got to Aiden Mirabal and Marc Morales for one run apiece and four total hits and two hit batters.
Gabriel Guerrero earned the save with 1 1/3 of scoreless and hitless relief, while striking out one.
Vincent Cantu singled, drew a bases loaded walk and scored.
Logan Sein had an RBI single.
Matt Perez went 2-for-3 with a run and one RBI.
Luke Proctor was hit by pitch twice and walked.
Luke Flores was hit by pitch and scored.
Edward Garbo went 2-for-3.
Silas Granados, Lukas Spence and Matt Torres had one hit apiece for the Lions.
Grant MacCharles went 4 2/3 innings and was charged with the loss after surrendering four runs (three earned) on seven hits and three hit batters.
MacCharles walked three and fanned five SHHS batters.
Jacob Castanon provided 1 1/3 of hitless and scoreless relief, including one strikeout.
Ayden Vieth had an RBI single in the bottom of the second and third innings.
Diego Villarreal drew a bases loaded walk.
Wesley Manning walked and scored.
Noah Sibrian was hit by pitch, singled twice and scored.
Aiden Gomez walked, singled and scored twice.
Carson Baker and Victor Merlos singled in the win.
Up next: The Huskies travel to Alta Loma on Tuesday at 3:30.
