Baseball:
If you like a slugger’s contest, Etiwanda High School was the place to be on Monday afternoon.
Chino Hills overcame a 10-7 deficit by scoring three times in the top of the sixth and they got one more in the eighth.
However, Etiwanda would rally for a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure a 12-11 victory.
Monday’s Baseline League showdown featured 23 runs, 32 hits and six pitchers.
With the win, EHS has a 2.5 game lead over both Damien and Chino Hills.
Max Zaldivar went two innings for the Huskies and he was charged with five runs on six hits and one hit batter over two innings.
Zaldivar walked two and fanned one.
Jacob Hernandez surrendered three runs on three hits and a hit batter over 1 2/3 innings.
Hernandez didn’t walk anyone and struck out two.
Brody Buoncristiani got the loss after being charged with four runs (two earned) on nine hits and a hit batter over 3 2/3 innings.
He walked two and struck out a pair of Eagles.
Trailing 10-9 in the bottom of the eighth, Derick Kim doubled in two runs for the walk-off win.
Kim finished 3-for-5 with a walk, two runs and the two RBIs.
LJ Roellig singled, had three doubles, four runs and an RBI.
Adam Ornelas had a pair of singles and two runs.
Angel Mejia went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, two runs and one RBI.
Frank Gonzales was hit by pitch, walked, singled and hit a solo home run.
Jaxson Milius went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, one run and three RBIs, including one via sac fly.
James Milam was hit by pitch, singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs.
Luke Severns was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
Michael Aleman started for Etiwanda and he got roughed up for seven runs on seven hits over four innings.
Aleman walked three and struck out three.
Dylan Villegas was charged with four runs (three earned) on five hits and a hit batter over 3 1/3 innings.
Villegas issued two walks and registered two strikeouts.
Nathan Perez earned the win getting the final two outs in the top of the eighth, including both via strikeout.
Jacob Jimenez walked, scored twice and his grand slam in the top of the fourth gave Chino Hills a 7-6 lead.
Hudson Hughes went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run and one RBI.
Ryan Dabuet walked, singled twice and scored a pair of runs.
Brooks Buoncristiani walked, singled and scored.
Jayden Kim went 2-for-5 with a double, run and two RBIs.
Branden Kim had a two-run double in the sixth and scored.
Rhett Billingsley’s RBI single in the top of the eighth gave the Huskies a temporary 11-10 lead.
Anthony Medyn was hit by pitch, singled twice and scored.
Stat of the day: All nine CHHS batters had at least one hit, as did seven of EHS’ starting nine.
