Boys Hoops:
Glendora cruised to an 80-58 victory over Walnut in the Palomares League and regular season finale.
And it came in large part due to the Tartans strong play in the first and third quarters.
GHS outscored WHS, 49-25, in the first eight minutes of each half.
Meanwhile, thanks to Claremont’s 72-64 victory over Diamond Bar, Walnut and Glendora will battle again on Wednesday to decide who gets third place and the automatic playoff spot in next week’s CIF-SS playoffs.
But back to Monday’s game.
Max Hilgenfeldt had another strong night.
The GHS senior finished with 20 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
He led the Tartans in all three of those categories.
Jeremiah Garzon added 17 points and a pair of rebounds.
Noah Rangel has stepped up his game big of late.
The junior contributed 16 points, including three 3-pointers in the win.
Brock Willett also played large in the win.
Willett hit a pair of 3’s, and he produced 14 points and a pair of rebounds.
Moshe Loucks finished with five points and four boards.
And Tanner Grable chipped in with four points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Jeremah Vasquez led Walnut with 20 points.
And that included three 3-pointers.
Chris Hernandez provided 11 points, and Kiko Guevara had eight points in the loss.
Hernandez hit three 3’s and Guevara had a pair of 3-pointers.
Up next: As mentioned, GHS will host WHS on Wednesday at 6:30 to decide third place in the Palomares League and an automatic playoff berth.

Quotable:
GHS coach, Gordon Hamlow: “I thought Max played tremendous tonight, not only scoring the basketball in distributing it, but he picked up nine rebounds to go with his eight assists and 20 points. Noah Rangel was a hot hand today finished with 21 and played with great energy on the offensive and defensive side of the floor. I thought we had a solid defensive effort this evening and did a good job on the board.
GHS senior, Max Hilgenfeldt: “I thought we played very well, specifically on the offensive end as we only had six turnovers throughout the game and pushed the floor significantly well. We did let Walnut get a couple of 3’s, but I feel like we responded almost every time with a bucket on the other end. Noah Rangel has been really stepping up as he has been hitting the 3 consistently and getting to his spot and knocking down shots. It is a big relief knowing that we have another strong scorer on the team. The team is extremely excited for our game on Wednesday, mainly because of the outcome that happened tonight. If we play like we did tonight on Wednesday, I feel like there will be a very positive result.”
GHS junior, Noah Rangel: “It’s just me knowing when to score. I’ve got a lot better feel for the game. I feel like I’m overlooked sometimes because I haven’t been as productive and I’m taking the shots when they are there. Max has always been consistent, and he played another big game tonight. Brock Willett also stepped up big, and he ran the floor well. I definitely plan to assert myself on Wednesday and into the playoffs. We’re excited about Wednesday and we’re locked in. We’re looking forward to having a good practice tomorrow to prepare for Walnut on Wednesday.”
