Football:
Pasadena gave Muir its only serious challenge during the Mustangs’ 2025 run to a second consecutive Pacific League championship.
Trailing 21-14, PHS’ Dior Middleton recovered a fumble with just under five minutes to play.
Fast forward two minutes and 19 seconds of game clock and Pasadena quarterback Dutch Burbidge hooked up with Kyle Robertson on a 15-yard scoring strike to pull to within 21-20 of MHS.
PHS’ Ron Johnson went the aggressive route by going for the 2-point conversion and the lead.
It’s something his players fully supported.
However, a Burbidge to Daniel Freeman pass attempt fell short.
With 2:23 to play, and after a Bulldogs’ onside kick went out of bounds, Muir took over at the 35-yard line.
The Mustangs weren’t done scoring yet.
A 66-yard TD strike from Trey Gamble to Noah Bozeman with 30 seconds to play gave MHS seven insurance points.
An Ethan Leyland interception officially secured the win for Muir.

Dating back to last season, the Mustangs have won 18 consecutive Pacific League games.
To back up the claim about Pasadena being the only speed bump along the way, check out these numbers.
PHS held MHS to 30 points under their league scoring average.
Before Friday night, Muir’s closest league game was a 30-point victory over Burbank on September 26th.
The game’s eight-point margin was 22 less than any other MHS league game.
And Muir’s 28 points offensively was 30 less than in any other league contest.
With all that said, and in spite of 16 penalties, the only thing the Mustangs cared about was ‘scoreboard,’ and heading into the playoffs on an eight-game winning streak.
Gamble went 17-of-30 for 264 yards, including three TD passes and one pick.
Bozeman had a huge night with 179 receiving yards on six catches.
Bozeman had TD receptions of 45 and 65 yards.
Zion McDonald led all rushers with 102 yards on 14 carries.
McDonald scored on a 5-yard TD run.

Burbidge completed 22-of-38 for 275 yards.
The PHS junior tossed three TD passes and a pair of interceptions.
Robertson led the Pasadena receiving corps with seven receptions for 98 yards.
Robertson caught TD passes of 32 and 15 yards.
Damari Pitts reeled in a 33-yard TD pass for Burbidge in the third quarter.
