Tennis:

Thanks to Maranatha for this report:

It’s hard to conceive of being truly proud of your team when they were as soundly beaten as the Lady Minutemen were today, but that’s exactly how Head Coach Arthur Hsieh felt after today’s loss.

Most players played close to the best tennis they were capable of playing, which is all Coach Hsieh wanted from his players today.

Today’s league finale was for the Olympic League title, as both teams came in with a 4-1 league record.

The better team simply won.

Each set was hard-fought and intense, but the deeper talent and experience of the Crusaders prevailed, especially during key pressure moments.

Maranatha’s lone points were against the Crusaders’ No. 3 doubles team.

Both teams will join the rest of the league next week for the Olympic League Individuals Tournament, where the top eight singles players and doubles teams in the league will face off to try to earn the right to play in the prestigious CIF-SS Individuals Tournament in November.

The top two singles players and doubles teams of each league in Southern California will represent their leagues in the nation’s largest high school tournament.

The following week begins the CIF-SS team playoffs.

Up next: Both the Crusaders and Lady Minutemen have qualified to play by earning the league’s two automatic berths.

The Lady Minutemen conclude their regular season with a 13-2 overall mark, and 4-2 in league.
