Football:

With two games to play in the 2025 regular season, there is plenty of drama waiting to play itself out.

The only leagues that will be discussed in this story are those with competitive races.

Baseline League:

Rancho Cucamonga seized the early inside track to a Baseline League title on October 3rd, when the Cougars edged the reigning champs from Damien, 24-22, in La Verne.

The Spartans scored on what some have described as a ‘Hail Mary’ pass from Isaiah Arriaza to Travon Garrison.

It pulled DHS to within two of RCHS.

However, Damien’s pass on the 2-point conversion attempt fell incomplete.

Fast forward to October 24th, and Rancho Cucamonga and Chino Hills are both 3-0, while Damien enters week nine at 2-1.

RCHS (ranked 27th in the state by MaxPreps), hosts Etiwanda (1-2), and Chino Hills (71st) welcomes Damien (32nd) on Friday night.

If the Cougars defeat the Eagles, their worst-case scenario would be a sharing of the Baseline League championship.

Chino Hills controls its own destiny.

If the Huskies pull off what most would consider an upset of Damien on Friday, CHHS would set up a winner-take-all scenario next Thursday at RCHS.

Damien is guaranteed to finish no worse than 3-2.

In week 10, the Spartans travel to what many consider the worst team in the southern section.

Ayala (0-8) had been outscored 313-48 overall, and 130-0 in Baseline League games.

Baseline League Standings:
Chino Hills (6-2, 3-0)
RCHS (4-4, 3-0)
Damien (7-1, 2-1)
Etiwanda (3-5, 1-2)
Upland (1-7, 0-3)
Ayala (0-8, 0-3)

Gold Coast League:

Rio Hondo Prep opened GCL play last week with an impressive and convincing 41-10 victory at Viewpoint.

The Patriots were 7-0 at the time, and they had surrendered just 77 points all season.

The Kares could secure a second GCL title with a win Saturday over Brentwood at Sofi Stadium.

The kickoff is set for 4:30.

RHP is finding its rhythm at exactly the right moment, and in the hopes of winning a third consecutive CIF-SS championship.

Next week, Viewpoint and Brentwood will meet up in the regular season finale for both programs.

Gold Coast League Standings:
Rio Hondo Prep (8-0, 1-0)
Brentwood (6-2, 0-0)
Viewpoint (7-1, 0-1)

Mesquite League:

Maranatha (2-1) would need some help to earn a league title after a 41-34 loss to undefeated Western Christian two weeks ago.

The Lancers (3-0) have a gimme this week when they host last-place Arrowhead Christian.

And Western Christian finishes out their regular season next week at Linfield Christian (2-1).

Maranatha has a solid shot at finishing 7-3 overall and 4-1 in league.

The Minutemen travel to Big Bear on Friday, and they’ll host Whittier Christian next week.

In spite of a lack of depth, the MHS offense is going to keep them competitive.

Mesquite League Standings:
Western Christian (8-0, 3-0)
Maranatha (5-3, 2-1)
Linfield Christian (3-5, 2-1)
Big Bear (4-4, 1-2)
Whittier Christian (2-6, 1-2)
Arrowhead Christian (1-7, 0-3)

Pacific League:

With all due respect to Pasadena, Muir is the heavy favorite to win the Pacific League championship.

The Mustangs (5-0) have outscored Glendale, Burbank, Crescenta Valley, Arcadia and Burroughs by a combined margin of 289-42.

MHS travels to Hoover on Friday, and they’ll meet up with PHS on October 31st at the Rose Bowl.

Pasadena (4-1) hosts Arcadia on Friday.

The Bulldogs rebounded from a 35-14 week-seven loss to Burbank with a 27-21 victory over Crescenta Valley at Sofi Stadium.

Pacific League Standings:
Muir (7-1, 5-0)
Burbank (5-3, 4-1)
Pasadena (5-3, 4-1)
Burroughs (3-5, 3-2)
Crescenta Valley (4-4, 2-3)
Hoover (2-6, 0-5)
Glendale (1-7, 0-5)

Sierra League:

Just like last season, the Sierra League title chase features Bonita and Charter Oak.

The Chargers (3-0) travel to Colony (1-2) and the Bearcats (3-0) visit Los Osos (1-2).

If COHS and BHS hold up their end of the bargain this week, next Thursday’s showdown in La Verne will determine an outright championship.

The injury-plagued Bearcats have won five consecutive games, and quarterback Travis Lippert is starting to find his touch after several missed games due to a week-zero injury at Muir.

The Chargers have four won four consecutive games, including Sierra League victories over Glendora, Claremont and Los Osos by a combined margin of 123-27.

Claremont could secure the league’s No. 3 seed with wins over visiting Glendora and a week-10 road game at Colony.

Sierra League Standings:
Charter Oak (7-1, 3-0)
Bonita (5-3, 3-0)
Claremont (6-2, 1-2)
Los Osos (3-5, 1-2)
Colony (3-5, 1-2)
Glendora (1-7, 0-3)

Valle Vista League:

With two wins, Northview (3-0) would secure a fifth consecutive VVL title.

A couple of those championships were co-titles, but the Vikings would stand alone with wins over Alta Loma and West Covina.

NHS (130th in state) has won six in a row, including league victories over Baldwin Park, Diamond Ranch and San Dimas by a combined margin of 126-42.

West Covina (3-0) also has the opportunity for an outright league title with wins at Diamond Ranch and over visiting Northview.

The Bulldogs (218th) have won four consecutive games.

WCHS could set up the winner-take-all scenario with Northview if they’re able to leave Diamond Ranch (0-3) on Thursday with a win.

Alta Loma (2-1) hopes to secure the VVL’s No. 3 seed.

The Lions only setback in league was a two-point (28-26) loss to visiting West Covina two weeks ago.

ALHS travels to first-place Northview on Friday before a week-10 showdown at San Dimas (1-2).

Valle Vista League Standings:
Northview (7-1, 3-0)
West Covina (6-2, 3-0)
Alta Loma (6-2, 2-1)
San Dimas (4-4, 1-2)
Baldwin Park (4-4, 0-3)
Diamond Ranch (3-5, 0-3)
