Football:
For the second consecutive week, Monrovia survived a shootout.
The Wildcats persevered, 42-38, last week over their visitors from Brentwood.
And on Thursday, MHS headed home with a 51-41 victory at Eagle Rock.
Monrovia compiled 663 yards of total offense.
As expected, sophomore quarterback Jesse Saucedo cleaned up his game from week zero.
Saucedo tossed five TD passes versus Brentwood, but he was picked four times.
On Thursday, No. 5 in green completed 13-of-22 for 304 yards.
He finished with three TDs and no turnovers.
The Wildcats rushed for 359 yards.
Byron Bell led the way with 133 yards on 14 carries, including a pair of TD runs.
Troy Grise carried the ball seven times for 88 yards and one TD.
Saucedo gained 47 yards on six carries, which included one score.
Dashawn Sieber carried the ball six times for 52 yards.
And Lucas Perez totaled 39 yards rushing on just two touches.
Troy Grise led the Monrovia receiving corps with 144 yards on five catches, including a pair of TDs.
Evan Ricketts had three catches for 102 yards and one score.
Byron Bell and Dashawn Sieber reeled in two receptions apiece for a combined 55 yards.
Troy Grise also had a team-high nine tackles.
Dominic Lino, Lucas Martinez and Jacob Calderon contributed eight tackles apiece for the MHS defense.
Bell had the lone interception on Thursday.
Up next: The Wildcats travel to Los Angeles next Friday to battle Roosevelt.
The Rough Riders (0-2) are off to a brutal start.
RHS has consecutive losses to Paramount and Lawndale by a combined margin of 105-7.
