Baseball:

Glendora rode the arms of Tanner Grable and Brayden Johnson, and the bat of Aaron Jacobsen to an historic 2-0 victory over San Dimas in the championship game of the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs.

It’s only the Tartans second CIF-SS baseball title and their first in 15 years.

Grable and Johnson combined on a four-hit shutout on a hot Saturday afternoon at Cal State Fullerton.

Grable went 3 1/3 innings and allowed just two hits.

He walked two and fanned a pair of Saints.

Thirty-two of his 54 pitches were strikes.

Johnson, the Tartans ace, got the final 11 outs, and he only allowed a pair of singles.

The senior lefty got Jayden Claros to fly out to Jackson Glaze in right to set off a celebration.

He didn’t issue a walk and registered two strikeouts.

In the title run, Johnson went 2-0 with a save.

Thirty-five of his 50 pitches were strikes.

Jayden Claros, Ashton Romero, Jayden Medina and AJ Larios had one hit apiece for SDHS.

Make no mistake about it: The Saints graduated six D-1 studs after the 2024 season, and they had an unusually low third place finish in the Hacienda League.

But even in a ‘down year,’ SDHS was only a few runs away from another CIF title.

And with Dean Brosterhouse back for three more years, along with two for James Rocha, San Dimas isn’t going anywhere.

Rocha went five innings on Saturday, and he was responsible for two runs (one earned) on five hits.

Rocha issued three walks and registered five strikeouts.

The star sophomore threw 45 strikes in 76 pitches.

Brosterhouse provided two scoreless and hitless innings in relief.

Brosterhouse walked three and struck out one GHS batter.

Aaron Jacobsen went 2-for-2 and drew a pair of walks.

He doubled twice, including an RBI two-bagger in the top of the first inning to score Santiago Garza.

In the top of the sixth, Jacobsen doubled again, and his pinch runner (Troy Norman) scored on a San Dimas error off the bat of Jackson Glaze.

Garza finished 2-for-3 with a walk, and a fifth inning double.

Mason Danison walked and singled.

Aidan Yamazaki didn’t get a hit, but he made some solid plays at first base.

Tyler Olbert went 0-for-3 with a walk, but the Tartans’ catcher got huge praise from his teammates and coach about the stability he brought to the catcher position all season.

And John Seader was 0-for-2, and yet his play at shortstop on Saturday and all season was key to a Glendora High School championship.

Up next: Both SDHS and GHS will get their CIF State playoff opponents next week.
