Baseball:

Glendora earned its first appearance in a CIF-SS title game since 2010.

The Tartans outlasted a solid Temecula Valley team, 7-5, thanks to a number of contributors.

Brayden Johnson, the ace, and the reason Glendora got this far, did not have his best stuff.

But Johnson battled his butt off and went four innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits.

Johnson hit a pair of batters, issued three walks and registered five strikeouts.

Freshman Sebastian Lawrence came on, and he beautifully and calmly delivered three scoreless innings in relief and surrendered just one hit.

Lawrence got the win after the Tartans scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

With a runner at third and the potential tying run at the plate, Lawrence induced a ground ball to short off the bat of Will Bandel, and John Seader ended the Golden Bears season by tossing the ball across the diamond to Aidan Yamazaki.

He didn’t give away a free pass, and Lawrence struck out two TVHS batters.

Trailing 4-1 in the top of the third inning, Ryan Recio hit a three-run shot to tie the game at 4-4.

Recio finished 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and the three RBIs.

Stone Tucker and Stafford Johnson singled and scored one run apiece.

Chase Hilt walked, scored and had an RBI ground out.

Taden Krogsgaard tripled.

Will Bandel and Rocco Pugliese had one single apiece.

Grayson Martin went one-plus inning for the Golden Bears, and he was responsible for four runs on two hits, a pair of hit batters and one walk.

Krogsgaard went the final five for TVHS, and he allowed three runs on five hits.

Krogsgaard walked one and struck out eight GHS batters.

One of the game’s most dramatic moments came in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Mason Danison singled and Yamazaki reached base on a fielder’s choice with no outs.

John Seader was giving himself up to bunt, but Krogsgaard’s wild pitch allowed both runners to move up one base.

GHS coach Jerry Lewallen sent Daniel Conness up to pinch hit for Seader with a 1-and-0 count.

And Conness made his coach look good with a two-run single to right for what turned out to be the game-winning RBIs.

Danison singled twice, was hit by pitch, and scored a pair of runs.

Danison also made a huge catch in left field for the Tartans.

Santiago Garza and Tanner Grable singled and scored one run apiece.

Jackson Glaze doubled and scored.

Aidan Yamazaki drew a walk, scored twice and the SGV area’s tackles leader gave the Tartans a 5-4 lead on a sac fly in the bottom of the third inning.

Tyler Olbert got GHS on the board with his sac fly to right to score Garza in the first.

Aaron Jacobsen’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the second gave the Tartans a 4-1 lead.

In the second inning, with Danison on first and Grable on second, a pickoff attempt of Grable was errant, and then the center fielder misplayed the ball.

It allowed Grable and Danison to score on sprints of 180 and 270 feet, respectively.

It also gave GHS a 3-1 lead.

Up next: The Tartans will face off with San Dimas on Saturday at 4 at Cal State Fullerton.

The Saints picked up a 4-1 victory at Beckman to earn their spot in the D-3 final.
