Baseball:

The Glendora High baseball revival story of 2025 added another chapter to its book on Tuesday afternoon.

As noted, the Tartans went 9-18 overall and 2-13 in Palomares League play in 2024.

Fast forward one year, and after a brutal first league series sweep at the hands of the eventual champs from Ayala and a third-place finish, Glendora finds itself as the league’s lone remaining postseason program.

GHS did that by defeating No. 2 seeded Yucaipa, 5-1, at GHS, in the second round of the D-3 playoffs.

The win cemented both a 20-win season and a trip to the quarterfinal round for the first time since 2017.

The Tartans scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning, and Brayden Johnson did the heavy lifting.

Johnson went six innings, and he was charged with one run on six hits.

Johnson issued one walk and registered six strikeouts.

Seventy-five of his 106 pitches were strikes.

In the 2025 postseason, Johnson is 2-0, and he’s surrendered one earned run in 13 innings.

He’s walked three and fanned 16 opposing batters.

Sebastian Lawrence got the final three outs without any damage.

Landyn Von Kaenel’s two-out RBI single in the top of the fifth plated Logan Jackson with YHS’ lone run of the game.

Connor White and Wyatt Miller collected a pair of singles apiece.

Damian Cordero had the Thunderbirds other base hit.

Logan Pashman got the loss after being roughed up for five runs on seven hits in just two innings of work.

Pashman walked one and fanned a pair of Tartans.

Xavier Romero provided four scoreless innings in relief and scattered four hits.

Romero issued one walk and registered two strikeouts.

GHS out-hit YHS, 11-6.

With one out in the bottom of the second inning, Aidan Yamazaki, John Seader and Santiago Garza singled to load the bases.

Kai Zeits singled Yamazaki home for a 1-0 lead.

One batter later, Aaron Jacobsen was hit by pitch, and that allowed Seader to score.

Tyler Olbert doubled the Tartans advantage with a two-run single to center.

Jackson Glaze’s RBI ground out plated Jacobsen with the fifth run.

Garza finished 2-for-4 with one run.

Zeits had a pair of singles, one run and an RBI.

Jacobsen had a single, run scored and the one RBI.

Tanner Grable and Mason Danison had one single apiece in the win.

Yamazaki and Seader both had one single, and one run scored apiece.

Troy Norman doubled.

Up next: The Tartans travel to Costa Mesa on Friday at 3:15.

The Mustangs (24-6) edged their hosts from San Juan Hills, 5-4, on Tuesday.

Quotable:

GHS coach, Jerry Lewallen: “Today was a great effort by all of our guys. Brayden and Tyler (Battery) were great today. Offensively, I thought our guys leading off the inning did a great job. When you get the lead off guys on it gives you options. Our guys did a great job executing. Sebastian Lawrence out of the pen in the seventh inning was outstanding. For a young freshman, he was poised and executed his pitches.”
