Baseball:
Damien scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning, and the Spartans cruised to a 7-3 victory over their visitors from Chino Hills.
On top of that, DHS caught Rancho Cucamonga atop the Baseline League standings thanks to Etiwanda’s 8-2 victory over the Cougars.
Rudy O’Dell went the distance, and he was charged with three runs on five hits.
O’Dell issued a pair of walks and registered three strikeouts.
Josh Mendez went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Brody Buoncristiani drew a pair of walks, singled and scored twice.
Branden Kim singled and scored.
Matt McCliman singled once for the Huskies.
Max Zaldivar was roughed up for seven runs on nine hits in just 1 2/3 innings.
Zaldivar walked one and he struck out four Damien batters.
Matt Tejada provided 4 1/3 scoreless innings in relief and allowed a pair of hits.
Tejada walked one and struck out one.
As mentioned, DHS did all their damage in the bottom of the second inning.
That included two-run home runs from Bobby Logue and Elius Kelly.
Michael Mansour and Grant Corder chipped in with one RBI double apiece.
Mansour and Kelly both went 2-for-3.
Brady Bickham and Russell Del Castillo singled and scored one run apiece.
Gino Tarzia and Nathan Moreno each singled.
