College Baseball:

Mt. SAC had a chance to clinch an outright South Coast Conference championship this week.

But they needed a sweep of Pasadena City College.

The Mounties didn’t just sweep PCC, they dominated the Lancers.

Mt. SAC claimed victories of 11-1, 11-4 and 16-4.

In Saturday’s 12-run triumph, the Mounties out-hit the Lancers, 21-9, and that included a 7-2 advantage in extra-base hits.

All nine starters had at least one hit, and MSAC scored at least one run in each of the nine innings.

Joe Bacon got the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Bacon walked one and fanned three Mounties.

Ty Thomas went 3-for-5 with a walk, four runs and a three-run HR.

I’m sure it sounds repetitive, but Tyler Stull continues to tear the cover off the ball.

On Saturday, Stull had four hits, including a double, one run and four RBIs.

Bryan Bradshaw went 3-for-5 with a walk, an RBI double, an RBI triple and two runs scored.

Landon White had a pair of singles and scored two runs.

Cole Nachreiner went 4-for-6 with two runs, a double and one RBI.

Miguel Perez doubled, scored and drove in one.

Jackson Giacone went 2-for-5 with a double, run and one RBI.

Noah Rodriguez walked, singled and scored.

Diego Ortiz walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.

Brenden Menchaca went six innings to earn the win.

He allowed two runs on seven hits.

Menchaca issued one walk and registered three strikeouts.

Matt Viveros (1 IP) and Sam Silversmith (2) combined to get the final nine outs.

Bryan Richman walked, scored twice, singled, and hit a solo HR in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Joaquin Salcedo walked, had an RBI triple and scored.

Tyler Garcia walked, singled and scored.

Devon Eskridge walked and had an RBI single.

Evan Nahra and Adrian Roman walked and had one single apiece.

Isaac Ton and Jacob Escamilla had one single each for the Lancers.

Quotable:

Mt. SAC coach, John Knott: “We’re excited and honored to be the South Coast Conference champion. Several guys have stepped up and contributed to our success. On the mound, we are led by Izeah Muniz, Hudson Castillo and Brenden Menchaca, but we’re also getting clutch help in relief by Joey Peralta and Sam Silversmith. Offensively, we have been consistently led by Landon White, Bryan Bradshaw and Ty Thomas. However, Tyler Stull and Miguel Perez have been outstanding for us. This group has been the sum of all parts. I have been most impressed with the character and attitude of this group. Guys are pulling for each other and embracing their role. They have worked hard in practice and it has translated in the games. The players get all the credit, as they have embraced the challenges and have all been willing to make the adjustments we’ve asked of them. It has been fun to watch and be a part of.”
