Baseball:
Etiwanda was five outs from what they hoped was a Baseline League opening win at Damien.
The Eagles led 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning with one out and no one on.
The Spartans, however, scored four runs on four hits, four walks (one intentional) and they took advantage of a two-run error to take a 6-3 lead.
And Ryan Wentworth closed out the win in the top of the seventh, allowing one hit and striking out one in Damien’s 6-3 victory.
Rudy O’Dell went six innings, and he was charged with three runs on four hits.
O’Dell issued four walks and fanned a pair of Eagles.
With two outs in the top of the fourth and a runner on first base, Frank Gonzales hit a two-run HR.
Angel Mejia went 3-for-3 with a run, and his RBI single in the sixth gave EHS a 3-2 lead.
Jaeden Toki drew a pair of walks and scored.
Josh Adams had the other Eagles’ hit on Monday.
CJ Monzon went 2 2/3 scoreless innings, and he scattered three hits.
Monzon walked three and struck out one.
Noah Frias got the loss after allowing six runs on four hits over three innings.
Monzon issued seven walks and fanned a pair of Spartans.
EHS pitching was charged for 12 walks, and nine DHS batters drew at least one base on balls apiece.
Brady Bickham went 2-for-3 with a walk, run and his solo HR in the bottom of the fifth tied the game at 2-2.
Michael Mansour walked, singled, scored and drove in one run.
Grant Corder walked, doubled and scored.
Elius Kelly drew a pair of walks, singled and scored.
Gino Tarzia walked and singled.
Nathan Moreno walked three times and scored.
Russell Del Castillo singled once in the win.
