Softball:
Charter Oak earned a spot in the CIF-SS Division 3 quarterfinals thanks to Tuesday’s 5-3 victory over Royal.
The Chargers scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, and freshman Leila Diebert made that stand up.
Diebert got the win after going to the distance, and she allowed three runs on five hits.
Diebert issued two walks and struck out five Royal batters.
Mrdah Murali walked, homered and drove in a pair of runs.
Ayzlinn Trefren singled and scored.
Josephine Gallo singled and scored.
Holly White went 2-for-3 in the loss.
Julianna Galbraith got the loss.
She went all six innings, allowing five runs on five hits.
Galbraith walked two and fanned nine COHS batters.
Lyla Caston hit a two-run HR for the Chargers.
Jayla Brown singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs.
Diebert helped her own cause with an RBI single.
Up next: COHS will battle Agoura on Thursday at 3:15.
AHS defeated Upland, 9-5, on Tuesday.
