Softball:
The first five innings of Wednesday’s Valle Vista League showdown between Northview and Covina wasn’t remarkable.
The Vikings and Colts were locked in a 1-1 tie.
But Northview would score once in the top of the sixth, and they got three more in the seventh to take a 5-3 lead.
Unfortunately for NHS, Covina plated two runs in the sixth, and they scored three times in the bottom of the seventh, to claim a 6-5 walk-off victory.
The win allowed CHS to move to within one-game of second-place Northview in the VVL standings.
Lexi Sumpter went all seven innings, and she allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits.
Sumpter issued three walks and fanned one NHS batter.
Caitlyn Wilson singled, doubled and scored.
Destiny Gallardo hit a solo HR.
Breyawna Turner doubled in a run.
Isabella Ochoa drew a pair of walks, tripled, scored and drove in one run.
Marilyn Sandoval singled, scored and had an RBI.
Beatriz Diaz doubled, Ariel Fierro singled and Isabell Galvan scored.
Ariel Fierro got the loss.
Fierro surrendered six runs (five earned) on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Fierro walked one and struck out three Covina batters.
Isabell Ramirez went 3-for-4, with two home runs, three runs and five RBIs.
Savanna Pacheco singled three times and scored two runs.
Sabrina Medrano singled, Danielle Singley had an RBI and Val Meza scored.
Up next: NHS and CHS will both travel on Friday afternoon.
The Vikings head to San Dimas and the Colts visit first-place Charter Oak.
