Boys Tennis:

In the first of back-to-back league matches this week, the Minutemen traveled to Cal State Dominguez Hills, the home of the California Academy of Math and Science.

The match was closer than the score indicates, with the outcome undecided until the 3rd round, which the Minutemen won 6-0.

Maranatha jumped out to a 4-2 lead after dominant performances by #1 and #2 singles, Matt Yip (6-1) and Cherif Sauma (6-2), as well as #1 and #3 doubles, Hayden Geeting/Nate Schumann (6-2) and Reggie Park/Elbert Sun (6-3).

No.3 singles, Will Klop, almost made the lead 5-1 after leading his first set, 5-1, before succumbing, 5-7.

The teams split the second round, with Yip and Sauma providing 6-4 and 6-2 wins; #2 doubles, Malachi Dharmaratne/Yohan Park, also pulled out a 6-2 win, giving the Minutemen a 7-5 lead.

Russell Sze subbed in for Klop in the third round and registered the first win of his career, 6-4.

Yip and Sauma also prevailed, 6-0 and 6-4.

In doubles, each doubles team won with identical 7-5 scores.

The Minutemen return home Wednesday for a league matchup with visiting Wildwood, who will be in contention with Maranatha for the league’s final playoff berth (after Geffen and Village Christian).
